NCRC Test for Seniors on November 4, 2020

On November 4, 2020, CHS Seniors were taking three ACT Work Keys Assessments: Workplace Documents, Graphic Literacy and Applied Math. The goal of taking these three assessments was for students to achieve their National Career Readiness Certificates (NCRC).
The NCRC has four levels; Platinum, Gold, Silver, and Bronze. The NCRC measures and certifies the essential work skills needed for success in jobs. Once students obtain their NCRC they will be able to:
  • Build confidence in skills that meet the needs of employers
  • Show prospective employers concrete proof of their skills
  • Apply real-world use to coursework from the classroom
  • Determine skill improvement and training needs
  • Improve the opportunities for career changes and advancement
  • Earn college credit at many institutions and reach academic goals more quickly
Students obtaining their NCRC can share their achievement with potential or current employers. The assessments measure workplace skills that affect job performance. WorkKeys assessments are unique, that they go beyond simply giving an indication of reading and writing competency, they measure a range of hard and soft skills relevant to any occupation, at any level and across industries. Success in obtaining a NCRC verifies foundational workplace skills. Tens of thousands of employers recognize the value of the NCRC, and many recommend the credential to candidates. The three WorkKeys assessments that students completed to obtain their NCRC are: Applied Math, Graphic Literacy and Workplace Documents.
Applied MathAt some point, many of us sat in math class and asked ourselves, “When am I going to use this?” We may not have believed it, but the answer in a variety of professions is, “Every day!” The Applied Math assessment measures critical thinking, mathematical reasoning, and problem solving techniques for situations that actually occur in today’s workplace. While individuals may use calculators and conversion tables to help with the problems on the assessment, math skills are still needed to think them through.
Graphic LiteracyWorkplace graphics come in a variety of formats, but all communicate a level of information. From charts to graphs, diagrams to floor plans, identifying what information is being presented and understanding how to use it are critical to success. The Graphic Literacy assessment measures the skill needed to locate, synthesize, and use information from workplace graphics.
Workplace DocumentsEmployees need to be able to understand written text to do a job. The Workplace Documents assessment measures the skill people use when they read and use written text such as memos, letters, directions, signs, notices, bulletins, policies, and regulations on the job.
If students chose they can continue to complete the rest of the WorkKeys Assessments they can pick all or any one of the following Applied Technology, Business Writing, Workplace Observation, Fit and Talent.
